For his first all-men’s collection Alexis Mabille conjures
up a fun-loving crowd who live their exciting and full lives
while keeping their individual allure unspoiled – whether
it be that of the dandy, or of the sports fan.
The designer unashamedly examines and reevaluates the dress
codes and wardrobes of a refined bourgeois world.
From those old school-days in uniform, Alexis Mabille keeps
alive the passion for blazers, V-neck cardigans, striped wool
and cotton, navy blue associated with white, and the mix of
grey and blue. From the haze of lazy summers on the beach, he
distinguishes sailor smocks, tank tops, sweatshirts and hoodies.
From the crispness of the linen closet, he brings out white
cotton muslins and laces, fresh checked dishcloths as well as
ingeniously dotted Swiss and poplins. From the memory of rich
interiors, he magnifies silver, gold, brass and mirrors, transforming
them into buttons, suspenders, belts, jewelry… while the
heavy silk drapes brocaded with maxi flowers become coats, boleros
or jeans. The designer finds further inspiration, regardless
of the time of day, in grand formal wear: black tailcoats, cutaways
and tuxedos; satins, summer wools, sequins, and jet beads; white
crisp cotton piqués, and dazzling plastrons... Their
white-tie and black-tie dress codes ensure the appearance of
the preferred emblem of this young designer: the bowtie.
Alexis Mabille’s designs disregard the artificial barriers
which attempt to separate day and night, casual and formal wear,
and men’s and women’s attires. Joyfully mixing and
matching all of them, Alexis creates fashion for his whimsical
and energetic contemporaries – each a new version of the
modern dandy - who, after work, enjoys friendships and nightlife
as much as the gym.
